Message threads (beta), Messages API (Nov 2)

Adds server-side conversation state behind the message-threads-2026-08-12 beta header, so later requests send only new messages. A thread expires 5 minutes after its last request and is deleted within 1 hour of last use. It is available on the Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS, Claude Models on Google Cloud and Claude in Microsoft Foundry.

Claude Code v2.1.317 (Nov 3)

• Adds a check that asks before a web or shell tool call sends your account email address to the network.
• Adds onFailure: "block" for Agent SDK hook callbacks.
• Adds a warning in /schedule when a new cloud scheduled task gets connectors you did not ask for.
• Adds anthropic.plan, anthropic.seat_type, anthropic.provider and anthropic.custom_base_url to OTel metrics, events and spans.
• Adds a cost report endpoint (GET /v1/organizations/analytics/cost) to the Claude apps gateway admin API, plus a daily record of each developer's IdP groups.
• Adds CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_NESTED_SESSION_ID.
• Changes subagents and teammates on a different model to use that model's saved effort level or its default.
• Removes the Read tool's "file unchanged since your last Read" stub.
• Fixes claude -p exiting 0 when a full disk or quota lost its transcript; it now prints an error and exits 1.
• Fixes claude -p in a cloud or self-hosted runner session sharing that session's ID and writing into its transcript.
• Fixes claude auth status exiting before a slow token refresh was saved, which could sign you out.
• Fixes "Prompt is too long" after automatic compaction when a very large CLAUDE.md changed.
• Fixes OTel export hangs behind proxies; exports now time out after 10 seconds, or OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_TIMEOUT up to 30 seconds.
• Fixes Claude treating partial Grep and Glob results as complete when a search hit its time limit.
• Fixes Windows tool calls being refused on some volumes and the 260-character path limit.

Claude Code v2.1.316 (Oct 31)

• Adds CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_ULTRATHINK, which turns the ultrathink keyword off.
• Adds CLAUDE_CODE_SUBAGENT_EFFORT to set the effort level subagents run at.
• Adds CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_LOOPED_CROSS_CERT_DROP.
• Adds pooled group budgets (pooled_budget), managed.policy_mode: layered and guardrail.input_tagging to the Claude apps gateway.
• Deprecates fast mode for Opus 4.8 (effective Oct 30); it is removed on Nov 30, after which fast mode requests on Opus 4.8 return an error. The notes say to migrate to Opus 5.5.
• Changes server-managed settings for Team and Enterprise logins: settings fetched from Anthropic's API now apply without an approval prompt, and a stored copy that doesn't verify is refused.
• VS Code: adds gateway sign-in from the chat panel, and ultrathink now runs at xhigh effort.
• Cloud sessions: adds a form card for MCP server forms and a "Catching up…" line.
• Claude Tag: fixes Slack issues and adds a "How Claude participates" setting.
• Code Review: adds a findings-by-severity card to the analytics page.
• Fixes --restricted sessions uploading files from outside the working directories when a Read allow rule covered them.
• Fixes PowerShell hooks not blocking on exit code 2 when the command starts with a type cast, param, using or an attribute.
• Fixes shell commands being left running on macOS and Linux when Claude Code exits by itself.
• Fixes claude auth login refusing to run where managed settings require a gateway.

anthropic-sdk-python v2.4.0 (Nov 2)

• Adds GA methods for analytics, spend limits and RBAC, with named beta types for unified metrics and RBAC delete responses.
• Adds the session error types tool_use_limit_reached_error and compaction_limit_reached_error.
• Adds user_profile_id to External Keys and Workspaces.
• Fixes spend_limit being non-nullable in the spend limit increase request approve response.

anthropic-sdk-typescript sdk-v1.4.0 (Nov 2)

Adds the same analytics, spend limits, RBAC and session error types as Python v2.4.0. Adds a description to the AnthropicBeta type and type-checks the published declarations of every subpackage.

Agent SDK TypeScript v0.3.317 (Nov 3)

• Adds onFailure to hook matchers; with "block", a hook that throws or returns invalid output blocks the action.
• Adds a session_writes_lost system message, sent when a full disk or quota stopped the CLI from saving the transcript or ~/.claude.json.
• Adds lossy to readFile() utf-8 answers.
• Removes the file_unchanged variant of FileReadOutput.
• Fixes setMcpServers closing a folder's .mcp.json and local-scope MCP servers in sessions started with prewarm() and bound with SpareProcess.claim().

Agent SDK Python v0.2.177 (Nov 3)

Adds an on_failure option for HookMatcher; on_failure="block" blocks the action when a callback raises, returns None or returns a value the CLI rejects. It needs a CLI that supports it, and an older CLI raises CLIConnectionError. Bundles Claude CLI 2.1.317.
