🚀 Anthropic Official
Introducing Claude Sonnet 5 (Jun 30)
Launches as the new default model for Free and Pro plans (also on Max/Team/Enterprise) with a 1M-token context window, 128k max output tokens, and introductory pricing of $2/$10 per MTok input/output through Aug 31, 2026 (then $3/$15). Ships three breaking changes vs. Sonnet 4.6: adaptive thinking on by default, manual extended-thinking parameters now return a 400 error, and non-default sampling params (temperature/top_p/top_k) are rejected; a new tokenizer also produces roughly 30% more tokens for the same text.
Redeploying Fable 5 and Mythos 5 (Jun 30, effective Jul 1)
Lifts the export-control suspension on Claude Fable 5, restoring global availability from Jul 1 across Claude.ai, the Claude Platform, Claude Code, and Cowork, after deploying a cybersecurity classifier that blocks the reported jailbreak in over 99% of cases. Discloses that Mythos 5 — the same underlying model with fewer safeguards, distributed only to trusted "Project Glasswing" partners for defensive cybersecurity work — is also being restored, and jointly proposes a four-axis jailbreak-severity scoring framework (capability gain, breadth, weaponization ease, discoverability) with Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, backed by a 24/7 monitoring team and a HackerOne submission program.
Claude Science, an AI workbench for scientists (Jun 30)
Ships a beta macOS/Linux app for Pro/Max/Team/Enterprise integrating 60+ scientific databases and skills (genomics, proteomics, structural biology, cheminformatics), 3D protein/genome-track rendering, a built-in reviewer agent for citation/calculation validation, and full code provenance for figures; funds up to 50 "AI for Science" projects with up to $30,000 in credits each (applications due Jul 15).
Claude Code v2.1.197 (Jun 30)
Makes Claude Sonnet 5 the default model, wiring in the 1M-token context window and introductory $2/$10 per MTok pricing.
Claude Code v2.1.198 (Jul 1)
Claude in Chrome reaches general availability and background agents launched from claude agents now commit, push, and open a draft PR when they finish code work in a worktree instead of stopping to ask. Adds Notification-hook events for agents needing input or completing (agent_needs_input/agent_completed), a new /dataviz skill with a runnable color-palette validator, an anthropicAws Gateway upstream provider, and switches the built-in Explore agent from Haiku to inheriting the main session's model (capped at Opus); also fixes stuck background-task panels, non-refreshing /diff panels on branch switches, and failed-teammate status reporting in agent teams.
API changelog — Sonnet 5 launch and Fable 5/Mythos 5 restoration (Jun 30 – Jul 1)

💡 Community — Workflows & Ideas
AgentWire ships three reliability releases (Jun 29–30)
The tmux-based multi-agent voice portal pushes v1.49.0 (F1 help modal, TTS sidebar fixes), v1.50.0–v1.50.1 (adaptive submit timing, idle-notification routing fixes), and v1.51.0 (agent-to-agent delivery reliability, bundled contributor onboarding role) in quick succession.
Sonnet 5's benchmark wins meet a rockier r/ClaudeAI reception (Jun 30)
Despite Sonnet 5 beating Opus 4.8 on some coding and knowledge-work benchmarks, community reports on r/ClaudeAI describe it as slower, quota-hungrier, and occasionally worse in practice — partly explained by the new tokenizer producing ~30% more tokens per request — prompting advice to benchmark on your own tasks before switching production traffic.
